Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We offer all of our services through a secure, HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform. This includes virtual psychotherapy, couples counseling, relationship counseling, family counseling, DBT skills groups, LGBTQ+ support groups, EMDR therapy, and clinical supervision.

  • While we love meeting in person, research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. Our therapists work to create a meaningful virtual experience, ensuring you feel supported and connected. All you need is a private space and the willingness to show up.

  • Yes, we do! Some of our therapists are bound by state licensing regulations, but others provide counseling, coaching, and mental health consulting nationwide.

  • Yes! We offer reduced-rate therapy through our internship program. Our graduate-level therapists provide high-quality, supervised counseling at a lower rate. Interns receive multiple layers of supervision from licensed clinicians to ensure you get the best care.

  • What is a trauma-informed therapist?

A trauma-informed therapist is trained to be sensitive to trauma responses, triggers, and the ways past experiences shape emotions and behaviors. They create a safe space where clients can heal at their own pace.

    What is a trauma-resolution therapist?

Trauma-resolution therapists go beyond trauma sensitivity by using specialized techniques to help clients safely process and heal trauma. This work may include grounding techniques, nervous system regulation, and deeper trauma-processing methods like EMDR.

  • Session fees range from $100-$250 depending on the therapist and session length. Weekly therapy sessions typically last between 50 to 90 minutes. We also offer reduced-rate therapy through our internship program. Fees will be discussed in your free 15-minute consultation.

  • We are out-of-network providers, meaning we do not accept direct insurance payments. However, we can provide a superbill that you can submit for reimbursement if your plan allows out-of-network coverage.

To check if your insurance will reimburse therapy sessions, call your provider and ask:

    • Am I covered for psychotherapy with an out-of-network provider?

    • Do I need prior authorization?

    • What is my deductible?

    • How many sessions are covered per year?

    • How much will I be reimbursed per session?

    • Where do I submit my superbill for reimbursement?

Many clients also use HSA or FSA funds to cover therapy costs.

  • Trauma intensives allow clients to work through trauma in a condensed format over several days, rather than spread out over months in weekly therapy. These deep-dive sessions use methods like EMDR, IFS, and somatic work to create faster, more focused breakthroughs for individuals who want accelerated healing.

  • KAP integrates ketamine with guided therapy sessions to help break through mental blocks, reduce emotional defenses, and make deep trauma work more accessible. Unlike traditional talk therapy, KAP allows clients to access and process trauma more fluidly, leading to insights and breakthroughs that may otherwise take longer to achieve.

  • Ketamine is deemed safe when used in controlled therapeutic environments with licensed professionals overseeing the process. At every stage of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), we prioritize safety to ensure a secure, supportive environment for clients undergoing this treatment. We follow protocols that include medical, psychological, and physical safeguards. Medical and psychological screenings are conducted in collaboration with our medical professionals who specialize in ketamine administration, assessing any potential risks or contraindications, such as certain heart conditions. Clients self-administer their own doses in a controlled setting.

Side effects are generally mild, such as dizziness, nausea, or dissociation, and they typically fade soon after the ketamine effects diminish. During each session, clients are supported by a trained therapist experienced in KAP and trauma-informed care. After each session, we provide integration support to help clients make sense of their experiences, addressing any residual emotions or physical sensations. Clients have the opportunity to discuss their experience in detail, ensuring they feel supported in understanding and applying the insights gained during KAP.

In recent years, ketamine has gained recognition for its potential in treating depression and anxiety, offering rapid relief for some individuals who haven't responded to traditional treatments. As research continues, it's increasingly important to ensure the use of ketamine is carefully managed and tailored to each person's unique needs to maximize benefits and minimize risks.

Furthermore, the unique action of ketamine provides a rapid onset of symptom relief, distinguishing it from traditional antidepressants.

Researchers are continually exploring its potential in treating a variety of mood disorders, highlighting its innovative role in mental health care. The clinical application of ketamine represents a promising frontier in psychiatry, offering hope for those who have not responded to conventional treatments.

  • KAP presents a transformative opportunity for individuals who have not found relief through conventional therapies. Ideal candidates are those who:

    • Have explored various treatment methods, such as medication and talk therapy, without adequate results.

    • Are receptive to experiencing altered states of consciousness.

    • Do not have a history of psychosis or specific medical conditions that could adversely interact with ketamine.

    • Aim to address conditions like depression, PTSD, anxiety, or chronic pain through a structured, therapy-supported approach.

All candidates undergo a comprehensive screening process to ensure KAP is a safe and appropriate choice for them. At Spilove Psychotherapy, we take great care in providing personalized evaluations and treatment plans for our clients, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout their Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in Bryn Mawr, PA journey. If you're interested in learning more or exploring whether KAP is right for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to support you on your path towards healing and growth.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful therapy designed to help people process traumatic memories. It uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to help the brain reprocess trauma, reducing emotional distress and PTSD symptoms.

  • Not at all! While many couples seek therapy during times of distress, couples counseling is also beneficial for strengthening communication, deepening emotional intimacy, and building a stronger foundation for the future. Whether you’re experiencing conflict or simply want to improve your relationship dynamics, couples therapy can help.

  • Our graduate-level therapy interns provide high-quality couples counseling at a reduced rate ($100 per session) under the close supervision of licensed marriage and family therapists. This allows couples to access affordable therapy while still receiving expert guidance and professional oversight.

  • LGBTQ+ therapy provides a safe and supportive space for clients to explore issues related to identity, coming out, relationships, mental health, and systemic oppression without fear of judgment. Our therapists specialize in queer-affirming, trans-competent therapy and are either part of or deeply connected to the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Many parents want to support their LGBTQ+ child but feel uncertain about the best way to do so. LGBTQ+ family therapy provides a non-judgmental space to process emotions, learn affirming language, and navigate any concerns so parents can become strong allies and advocates for their child.
